First, we enclose the roost bars with a vinyl coated wire mesh "cage." When chickens roost, their droppings
fall into the "cage" below. This helps keep the mess contained and reduce contamination of food and water inside the coop. The roost bars are raised above the cage so your chicken rest comfortably. The vinyl coated wire mesh means no sharp edges and no rust and it's easy to wash, scrape or brush off. We add a hinged panel (with latches) to the back wall of the coop that gives you access to a Glasbord covered wood tray. As you've probably guessed, this tray is located directly under the roost bars. When it's time to clean the coop, simply pull out the tray and shake, sweep, scrub or hose it off.
